 Renate Hickman “OMA”
(nee Bruckmann)
Renate Hickman of Akron passed away July 4, 2016. She was born in Germany January 23, 1956 to Jurgen and Magdalene Bruckmann. She was a graduate of North High School and worked for Hilton Quaker Square and most recently she was employed with Walmart in the Store Planning Division.
Renate is survived by her devoted husband Ken; loving children Michael (Lyndsay) and Daniel Burns; step-children Kevin Hickman and Karen (Billy) Mills; love of her life, grandchildren Austin, Maddy, Michael, Kalleigh, Peyton, Bryleigh, Jayleigh, Dakota and Hannah; brother Hans (Carol) Bruckmann and many other loving family and friends.
Renate never met anyone that she didn’t continue a friendship with. She was a happy loving person who put her family first, especially her grandchildren. She is going to be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors of Akron General for the love, support and care they gave Renate.
Memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (SR619) with Rev. Carl Wallace officiating. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday at Mt. Peace Cemetery, 183 Aqueduct St., Akron, Ohio 44303. Memorial contributions may be made in Renate’s name to American Cancer Society, East Central Division, Northeast Region, 525 N Broad St, Canfield, Ohio 44406. To Family and Friends of Renate,
My deepest sympathy to you in the loss of one special woman. Although many years went by where Renate and I lost touch with each other, we were the best of friends when Renate moved next door to me on Clifton Avenue from Germany when we were in the 3rd grade. We became best friends and, not too long after, welcomed Roxanne, from down the street, into our group. The three of us had so much fun! As teens, we spent a lot of time listening to music and talking about boys on Renate's back porch. We used to hang out at Chapel Hill Mall and walk to the Dairy Queen. Renate was a wonderful friend and seemed to be the leader of our group. She was fun and funny! I have so many wonderful memories of our times together going to Jackson School, Jennings Junior High School and North High School together! Because of Renate, my years growing up were the best! It was so great meeting up with Renate and Roxanne this past January after many years apart and catching up with them was so much fun! I didn't realize that would be the last time I would see Renate. I am so very sad that she has passed away at such a young age and can't believe that was our last outing together. My heart breaks for her family; I know she will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, Renate. I will see you on the other side when my time comes. Love ya, Dude (as we called each other)!
